Suspected political thugs have reportedly attacked the home of the women leader of the All Progessives Party (APC) in south senatorial district of Kwara state as political crisis brews in Ekiti Local Government Area of the state
The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state during 2015 election, Simeon Ajibola is said to be engaged in a face-off with chairman of the local government area, Yinka Dallas.
The face-off was said to be over the redeployment of some workers in the council whose employment had been facilitated by Ajibola before Dallas from APC became the chairman.
Ajibola who is a former senator hails from Isapa community in the local government just as Dallas.
It was alleged that the attack on the home of the woman politician identified simply as Elisabeth Isapa was not unconnected with the face-off.
About N200, 000 was said to be carted away while the suspect, according to the police, vandalised the property of the female politician, turning her household upside down before they left.
The attack reportedly came after the redeployed workers who were serving as tax collectors before their redeployment were arrested for allegedly engaging in illegal tax collection.
It was learnt that Ajibola had visited Isapa last week Thursday during which he met with his supporters and allegedly tasked them on the need to checkmate the new administration at the council.
It was alleged that the redeployed workers went back to their former beats during which they were arrested.
Spokesman for the state police command, Ajayi Okasanmi, who confirmed the incident said Dallas had earlier called the command on Sunday to intimate officer of the planned unrest by suspected hoodlums.
Okasanmi who disclosed that some arrests have been made over the development said the suspects would be transferred from Osi Police Division in Ekiti local government area to the state command today (Wednesday) from where they would be taken to court.
