Man threatens to kill step-sister over late father’s property

Lagos—A 57-year-old man, Abiodun Afolabi, who allegedly threatened to kill his step-sister, Maria Afolabi, over their father’s property was, yesterday, arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court in Lagos.


The defendant is facing a two-count charge bordering on breach of peace and threat to life preferred against him by the Police.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Edward Abiodun, told the court that the defendant committed the alleged offence on December 4, at about 9a.m. He said the incident took place at Adeniji-Adele Bus Stop, in Lagos Island. Abiodun, the prosecutor,  said: The prosecutor also said since the death of their dad, “the defendant had been threatening to kill Maria and her mother if anyone of them came close to him.” Narrow escape “On that fateful day, when the defendant saw Maria, he called some area boys and they chased her with a gun, but she was lucky to have escaped.” According to Abiodun, the alleged offences are punishable under Sections 168(D) and 56 (1) (2) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015. However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge. The magistrate, Mrs O. Kusanu, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties, who must be gainfully employed, in like sum. She added that the sureties must show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government with verification of address. The case was adjourned to January 18, 2018, for trial.
